2018 Ford Fiesta ST teased

Ford's next-generation Fiesta ST will be revealed on February 24 as the Blue Oval starts to build hype for the baby hot hatch with glimpses of the new model on a short teaser video released on Instagram.

As with most teaser videos, little information is revealed, but an opening frame of the ST badge, as well as brief flashes of an enthusiastically driven white hatchback, confirm Ford's fiery Fiesta will be back to top the next-generation light car range.

From the quick shots of the car in motion, small details including unique 14-spoke wheels, roof-mounted rear spoiler, dual tailpipes and sports bodykit can be seen, however, most revealing of all is the five door body style, hinting that Ford may ditch the three-door shape of the previous generation for a more passenger-friendly option.

The new Fiesta ST is expected to follow along the same lines as its predecessor, likely featuring a new interior with front bucket seats, sports pedals, a beefed up steering wheel and manual gearbox.

Ford is also expected to carryover its turbocharged powertrain, a 134kW/240Nm 1.6-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder unit, which will send power exclusively to the front axle, which enabled the current Fiesta ST to sprint from 0-100km/h in around 7.0 seconds.

Despite the rest of the new Fiesta range, which features variants including the Vignale, Titanium, Active and ST-Line, being sourced from Thailand for the Australian market, the top-spec ST version is still expected to be produced in Germany.

Ford's next-generation Fiesta range is likely to hit Australian showrooms in either late 2017 or early 2018, putting a local release for the ST variant sometime after that.
