Genesis has revealed the first-generation G70’s eagerly anticipated Shooting Brake wagon body-style, with the mid-sizer due in Australian showrooms in the third quarter of this year.
Based on the G70 sedan that was facelifted last September and is set to go on sale soon, the Shooting Brake stands out from the crowd with its unique rear end, which is of course headlined by a longer roofline that gently curves into a prominent tailgate spoiler.
Another stark difference is the tail-lights, which are split for the Shooting Brake, with it adding four small, wedge-like segments to the tailgate to make a serious statement.
Inside, there’s next to nothing to distinguish the Shooting Brake in the first row, but the second row does step up with additional headroom for rear occupants.
Better yet, the Shooting Brake’s boot has 40 per cent more cargo capacity than that of the sedan, at about 462L, although its storage space can be increased to an undisclosed volume by stowing the 40/20/40 split-fold rear bench.
Locally, the Shooting Brake is expected to share its petrol engines with the sedan, including a 179kW/353Nm 2.0-litre single-turbo four-cylinder and a 274kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6.
Either way, an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission is set to pair with rear-wheel drive for the BMW 3 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and Audi A4 Avant rival.
