Kia Australia says “economic increases” are behind price rises for three of its most popular models, the Cerato small sedan and hatch, Seltos small SUV and mid-size Sportage SUV.
Effective January 1, 2024 the Cerato had $470 added to its before on-road costs price, representing an increase ranging from 1.8 per cent for the entry-level S (was $26,590, now $27,060) to 1.3 per cent for the flagship GT Turbo (was $36,390, now $36,860).
That price-band sits above the segment-leading Hyundai i30 range (exclusive of N-Line/N models) - $24,000 (i30 hatch manual) to $38,500 (Premium sedan) but above the second-placed Toyota Corolla (exclusive of GR variants) - $29,610 (Ascent Sport sedan) to $40,260 (ZR Hybrid sedan).
The Seltos has picked up an extra $280, representing a modest 0.9 per cent lift for the base S grade (was $29,500, now $29,780) and a 0.6 per cent increase for the top-spec GT-Line AWD (was $44,900, now $45,180).
That exceeds the price range for the dominant player in the small SUV segment, MG’s all-conquering ZS (Excite - $23,990 drive-away) but is less than Mazda’s CX-30 runner-up - $32,990 (Pure) to $47,390 (G25 Astina AWD).
And finally, $200 has been added across the Sportage line-up, a 0.6 percent rise for the price-leading S (was $32,795, now $32,995) and no less than 0.5 per cent for the primo GT-Line Diesel (was $52,720, now $52,920).
That compares to the in-demand RAV4 - $37,960 (GX) to $58,360 (Edge Hybrid AWD) and - Mitsubishi Outlander (non-PHEV) - $37,740 (ES 5-seat 2WD) to $55,190 (Exceed Tourer 7-seat AWD).
