Upgraded multimedia, dynamic tweaks, extra colour choices and a new model grade are the headline changes for the 2024 SsangYong Musso 4x4 dual-cab ute and Rexton seven-seat SUV.
A relatively small player in a local ute market dominated by Ford's Ranger and the Toyota HiLux, SsangYong is looking to increase share with its refreshed Musso now featuring a 12.3-inch central multimedia touchscreen (up from 8.0-inch) and 12.3-inch digital instrument display (up from 10.25-inch). Connectivity is updated to two USB-C ports in the centre console.
Climate controls have also been revised into a hub arrangement combining a touchscreen and push-buttons. Add the 'Luxury Pack' ($1500) and the interface moves to a full touchscreen design.
Standard specification also features a soft opening and easy close tailgate and new lower body-to-chassis mounts to improve bump absorption with a new 'Amazonian Green' shade added to the colour palette.
At the same time a new mid-tier Adventure grade has been added to what becomes a three-model line-up (ELX, Adventure and Ultimate).
Car-spotters should look out for the Adventure's 18-inch black alloy wheels and 'four-fold' LED fog lights, positioned vertically in the lower bumper edges (also fitted to the Ultimate).
Adventure buyers also pick up a multi-link coil spring rear suspension, speed-sensitive power steering, synthetic leather seat trim, heated and cooling front seats as well as tyre pressure monitoring.
Based on the Musso, the three-row 4x4 Rexton SUV is in a similar David versus Goliath(s) battle with the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado, picking up the same multimedia and climate control upgrades and revised body mounts as well as a new 'Graphite' colour option.
A Rexton Adventure has also been introduced featuring a power tailgate and heated steering wheel as well as the speed sensitive power steering and tyre pressure monitoring added to the Musso version.
The powertrain (in both models) is unchanged with a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine (Musso - 133kW/400Nm / Rexton - 149kW/441Nm) driving all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 models enter showrooms this month and drive-away pricing is detailed below. An 'XLV Pack' ($1500) is available for all Musso grades and a Luxury Pack ($3000) is offered on the top-spec Musso Ultimate, while a 'Sport Pack' ($2000) is an option on the flagship Rexton Ultimate.
The Musso's XLV Pack increases the ute's wheelbase by 110mm allowing a 300mm longer tub which adds an extra 251L of load capacity and the engine picks up an extra 20Nm of pulling power.
The Musso's Luxury pack adds dual-zone climate control, a power sunroof, leather seats plus powered front and heated rear outer seats, while the Rexton Sport Pack includes a 'shadow chrome' front grille, tailgate and rear bumper, LED front fog lights (with shadow chrome surrounds), 20-inch alloy wheels and black roof rails.
