2025 Audi Q6 e-tron electric car revealed as Porsche Macan sibling, but when will it come to Australia to take on Mercedes-Benz EQC and Lexus RZ?

The Q6 e-tron shares a platform with the new Porsche Macan and falls under the mid-size segment.

Audi has unveiled its newest mid-size electric SUV, the Q6 e-tron, built on the same 'Premium Platform Electric' (PPE) architecture as the new electric Porsche Macan SUV.

The Audi Q6 e-tron electric car, plus a more powerful SQ6 e-tron, come equipped with 100kWh batteries, outputs of up to 285kW and 380kW respectively, and Audi says the Q6 e-tron can be charged with up to 255km of electric range in just 10 minutes.

Audi CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management Gernot Döllner said the Q6 e-tron marks the brand’s “next technological leap” thanks to the versatile PPE platform.

"The PPE shows how we are pooling expertise within the Volkswagen Group and thus making electric mobility scalable. Thanks to the PPE, we are able to launch high-volume models with high technical standards in different segments and thus further electrify our portfolio," said Döllner.

Both versions of the Q6 e-tron are all-wheel drive, with motors at each axle, allowing relatively quick sprints to 100km/h for the mid-size SUV segment - the Q6 in 5.9 seconds, and the SQ6 in 4.3 seconds.

Audi says two versions of the model will come later in rear-drive layouts, likely with longer ranges and lower acceleration performance.

Inside, a relatively standard layout for a modern Audi is marked with a rounded housing for the central multimedia screen.

The PPE architecture’s 800-volt technology allows a maximum charging capacity of 270kW - thus the impressive 255km of charge in 10 minutes - but also allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 21 minutes.

The model is just slightly longer than the Q5 at 4771mm, while being 1993mm wide and 1648mm tall with a 2899mm wheelbase.

Interestingly, Audi has used OLED technology for the rear lights, with six panels that “generate a new image every 10 milliseconds” and create a tail-light signature that looks “livelier and more intelligent”.

Both versions of the Q6 e-tron are all-wheel drive, with motors at each axle.

Inside, a relatively standard layout for a modern Audi is marked with a rounded housing for the central multimedia screen, which runs on Android Automotive OS, while a separate smaller screen is available for in front of the passenger.

A spokesperson from Audi Australia confirmed to CarsGuide that despite being unable to lock-in timing just yet, the car is definitely headed Down Under.

More information including timing and pricing for Australia will be confirmed closer to the Q6 and SQ6 e-tron’s launch.
