Peugeot is continuing its march toward full electrification with the reveal of its latest EV - the new-generation version of the E-5008 seven-seat SUV.

Following on from the E-3008 five-seat SUV that will land in Australia in the second half of this year, the E-5008 is also confirmed for a local launch.

“Following the recent global reveal, we're delighted to confirm Peugeot Australia's 100 per cent electric range will continue to grow with the Peugeot E-5008 anticipated to join the local range in 2025. Stay tuned for more information, including confirmation of arrival timing,” a spokesperson told CarsGuide.

Where the E-3008 adopts a swoopier coupe-like silhouette, the larger E-5008 has a more traditional SUV shape, albeit adopting Peugeot’s latest design language.

The previous 5008 was based on Peugeot-Citroen’s EMP2 platform, and the new model is built using a variation of it that has changed names to STLA-medium under the giant Stellantis umbrella.

The new model grows in size and is now 1690mm tall (+44mm), 1890mm wide (+46mm), 4790mm long (+149mm) and the wheelbase is now 2900mm (+60mm), making for a roomier interior.

It gains a high beltline, smoother panels and high-tech head and tail-lights - with the familiar claw-like signature. Elsewhere it gains the overall look of the E-3008 and 19- and 20-inch wheels.

Chrome, which has a terrible impact on the environment, is replaced in favour of paint on the body and real aluminium makes its way into the cabin.

In Europe at least, the E-5008 will be offered with three powertrains - as well as the EV there is a 48-volt mild hybrid delivering 101kW and paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a plug-in hybrid combining a 92kW electric motor and a 111kW turbo-petrol engine ensuring an electric only drive range of 80km.

Two-wheel-drive versions of the fully electric variants offer up either 157kW or 170kW, while a dual-motor all-wheel drive pumps out 237kW. It is combined with a 400V lithium-ion battery and either an 11 or 22kW onboard charger.

It is unclear which powertrains will be offered in Australia.

The first-generation Peugeot 5008 was a people mover that shared its underpinnings with the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, but for the second-gen model, it morphed into a seven-seat SUV.

The new-gen model will be produced in France at Peugeot’s as will the battery.
