The 2025 update for the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been revealed, with small design tweaks and new powertrain tech for the plush off-roader.

You’d be hard pressed to find some of the changes to the 2025 G-Class without being told that minor details like the reversing camera has been moved, but the bumpers have been altered slightly to feature a “squircle” theme.

The diesel-powered G450d and petrol G500 both feature a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, the latter was previously a V8, while the AMG G63 retains its powerful 430kW/850Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In Australia, Mercedes-Benz has offered the G63 only as its sole G-Class model for some time, meaning it’s likely to remain that way when the updated model arrives.

Now with a 48-volt ‘mild-hybrid’ system, the engine can supply an extra 15kW and 200Nm under boost for a short time. The G63 takes a claimed 4.4 seconds to hit 100km/h and goes on to a top speed of 220km/h.

New suspension is another key change to the G63, which Mercedes says now has “active, hydraulic roll stabilisation and adaptive adjustable damping”.

New off-road driving modes now include AMG Traction Pro and AMG Active Balance Control which, aptly, aim to maximise traction and allow for adjustable suspension stiffness respectively.

Inside, a new multimedia system brings the latest version of Mercedes MBUX with it, as well as keyless entry and even a dashcam as standard.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class should land in Australia in Q4, 2024.
