Kia ramps up electric car and hybrid plans, aims for 15 models on sale including EV2, EV3, EV4 and EV5 within three years and 1.6 million sales globally in 2030

Kia announced at its 2024 CEO Investor Day it will pursue “four core goals” including 15 EVs on sale in 2027.

Kia will have 15 electric cars in its line-up and a target of 1.6 million EV sales worldwide annually before the end of the decade, according to an announcement it made at the 2024 Kia CEO Investor Day.

The conference saw the brand outline its plans in detail for the next several years, but two key takeaways point to a rapid expansion of its electrification strategy, with hybrid and electric cars in focus.

New electric cars are planned for introduction over the next few years, including the EV2, EV3, EV4 and EV5 to join the EV6 and EV9.

For reference, the EV3 will be a small SUV, the EV2 a smaller model - a light SUV or hatch-crossover - while the EV4 will be a sedan and the EV5 a mid-size SUV.

More hybrid electric cars are also on the cards - up to nine models by 2028, Kia says - with the brand aiming for 2.48 million electrified sales by 2030, including 1.6 million electric cars, out of a total new car sales goal of 4.3 million units.

New electric cars are planned for introduction over the next few years, including the EV2, EV3, EV4 and EV5 to join the EV6 and EV9.

The new models and sales figures comprise two of four “core goals” the brand has set for the end of the decade, with the first moves to be the introduction of the EV3 in 2024, plus continuing the GT-ification of its existing models with the EV9 GT in early 2025 and firing up its ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ (PBV) business with the medium-sized PV5 electric commercial vehicle in the same year.

While the appetite for electric cars is slowing in some parts of the world, Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song said the brand is accelerating “the company’s transition to a sustainable mobility solutions provider” by “responding effectively to changes in the mobility market and efficiently implementing mid- to long-term strategies”.
