Zeekr confirms 2024 Aussie launch line-up: Electric car attack led by X small EV SUV and 009 people mover coming for BYD Atto 3 and Tesla Model Y

The Zeekr X is a compact, dual-motor, AWD electric SUV.

Performance luxury-focused Geely subsidiary, Zeekr, has confirmed its Australian launch line-up and timing with two models scheduled to arrive in the second half of this year.

Borrowing heavily from its Volvo XC40 corporate cousin, the Zeekr X is a compact, dual-motor, AWD EV SUV brimming with safety and convenience tech.

Available in a five- or more premium four-seat configuration, its dual electric motors deliver 315kW/543Nm to all four wheels for claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.7 seconds and a range of up to 560km.

The cabin features a 14.6-inch multimedia touchscreen able to slide across the dash from its default central position to a more front passenger friendly location, as well as 13-speaker Yamaha audio, a dual-panel panoramic roof, even a 5.7-litre fridge.

At the same time an ‘Ice Block’ ambient lighting array across the dash, comprising 66 LEDs, is “inspired by a beam of light passing through the Svalbard ice cave in the Arctic Ocean”.

Active safety includes five ‘Millimetre Wave’ radars, five HD cameras and 12 ultrasonic radar feeds informing the active cruise, AEB system and more.

There’s also auto parking assist, ‘Smart Sensor’ automatic doors and an intelligent system in the B-pillar allowing vehicle unlocking via facial recognition.

The pure-electric 009 is a substantial six- or seven-seat people mover measuring just over 5.2m long, a little over 2.0m wide and more than 1.8m tall.

With dual motors powered by a 116 or 140kWh battery, claimed 0-100km/h acceleration is 4.5sec with a range of 702 or a mega 822km (depending on battery size).

And there’s plenty of luxury to go with the performance, including a ‘Fountain of Light’ customisable illuminated grille, air suspension, Yamaha audio featuring 20 high-fidelity speakers (six in the seat headrests), Nappa full-grain leather trim, double-layer soundproof glass, a 15.6-inch central ceiling screen for back-seaters and electric power assistance for the seats and other on-board functions.

Safety runs to a camera-based interior rear-view display, seven high-def cameras, four surround-view cameras and a 250m (ultra-long-range) Millimetre Wave radar.

Zeekr is in the process of building its local retail capability, marketing strategy and sales plan, with pricing and final spec of the two launch models to be confirmed closer to launch.
