2024 Porsche Macan electric car pricing and specs: Porsche's most popular model looks to rattle the Tesla Model Y and Polestar 4 with new EV version

After a long wait, Porsche has revealed the electric version of its best-selling Macan SUV.

After an extended teaser campaign, Porsche has finally revealed and detailed its next-generation fully electric Macan performance SUV.

It is the second fully electric car from Porsche, and the first to debut the next-generation PPE platform. This new electric Macan will be available with a variety of drivetrains producing up to 470kW/1130Nm and has a 100kWh battery pack supporting an 800-volt architecture.

This means range in excess of 500km regardless of variant, and a fast charging capability of 270kW for charging times from 10 to 80 per cent of just 21 minutes. Charging is capped at 11kW on the slower AC standard.

The new Macan is 4784mm long, 1938mm wide and 1622mm high, making it slightly larger in every direction compared to the current combustion version which it will be sold alongside for some time, but it has a significantly longer wheelbase, with an extra 86mm distance between the front and rear wheels.

For the first time, the electric Macan will also feature rear-axle steering as an option, and both variants that will be made available at launch will be all-wheel-drive as standard. The new all-wheel drive system features a new traction management and torque vectoring software, and the top-spec Turbo launch variant will also feature an active suspension management system with dual-chamber dampers.

The design is similar to the existing Macan, although with a notable bump in height, and a  minimalistic edge to its front and rear bumpers to go with its sleek new light fittings. The new car is significantly more aerodynamic than the combustion version, with its drag coefficient dropping from 0.35 to 0.25, making it “one of the most streamlined SUVs on the market" according to Porsche.

The new Macan is 4784mm long, 1938mm wide and 1622mm high.

Also appearing as part of the new Macan's design is an active rear spoiler and wheel designs of up to 22 inches. The electric Macan also has more active aero elements for the front air intakes, and flexible elements on its underbody.

Its interior is also similar to the current car, with the same overall design cues complete with the central vent flourish and clock feature. The interior now has a more open console area with a re-designed climate panel, however, as well as a similar 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster to the one which appears in the Taycan. Embedded in the dash is a 10.9-inch multimedia touch screen, while a second 10.9-inch screen can be optionally added for the front passenger.

A head-up display is also available for the first time in the Macan range, which also features augmented reality features that sync up with the navigation system.

The electric Macan is confirmed to initially arrive in late 2024 in Australia in two variants, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.

An LED light strip across the dash and into the doors can communicate such things as charging progress and active safety system alerts as well as provide ambient interior lighting.

The on-board computers will also run a 'new-generation' software suite based on the Android Automotive operating system which also appears in the Polestar 2. This system will also include voice assistant prompts and support third-party apps.

Practical touches include up to 540 litres of luggage capacity (depending on variant) with a further 84 litres in a luggage compartment under the bonnet. Porsche says this adds up to 136L more storage capacity than the previous model.

A head-up display is also available for the first time in the Macan range.

Unusually for an electric car, the new Macan has a 2000kg towing capacity. Its cabin is also more spacious than before, offering passengers a 28mm lower seating position in the front and 15mm lower in the rear.

The electric Macan is confirmed to initially arrive in late 2024 in Australia in two variants, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, which will be priced at $133,700 and $180,100 before on-road costs respectively.

Standard equipment will include the aforementioned multimedia features as well as keyless entry and push-start ignition, privacy glass, a surround view parking camera system, digital radio and an array of both active and passive safety equipment.

The design is similar to the existing Macan, although with a notable bump in height, and a minimalistic edge to its front and rear bumpers to go with its sleek new light fittings.

Meanwhile the top-spec Turbo scores auto-dimming rear vision mirrors, active suspension management, 'power steering plus', 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, 21-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof.

Other equipment includes the 'Porsche electric sport sound', the Sport Chrono Package, and quad-zone climate, all of which are only available on the Turbo grade.

When it arrives, the electric Macan will go into battle with the Polestar 4 (from $81,500) and the BMW iX3 (from $89,100) as well as the upgraded versions of  the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Tesla Model Y, both of which are yet to be revealed.
