Cupra Born, MG4 on notice! 2024 Peugeot e-308 electric car confirmed for Australian launch this year, alongside Toyota HiAce-rivalling e-Expert van

The e-308 joins the petrol and plug-in hybrid models already on sale in Australia.

Another electric hatchback is set to enter the Australian market soon, with confirmation that the Peugeot e-308 electric car will hit showrooms this year.

The French carmaker has already announced that the smaller e-208 light electric hatch will be offered Down Under, likely in the first half of 2024, but the e-308 will land in the second half of the year.

Peugeot's local importer has confirmed that expressions of interest are now open for both the e-308 and the e-Expert light-commercial van.

The electric mid-size van segment is heating up, with Chinese manufacturer LDV this week launching its eDeliver 7, while Ford has also confirmed the E-Transit Custom will be here before the year is out.

That's on top of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo that may hit showrooms this year, and the Mercedes-Benz eVito that is already on sale.

While Peugeot Cars Australia has not confirmed pricing or specification for the e-308 or the e-Expert, that information will be revealed closer to launch.

The e-308 is also entering an increasingly busy segment.

The e-308 is also entering an increasingly busy segment. There are a number of electric hatchbacks on the market already, including the ageing Nissan Leaf, as well as new players like the MG4, BYD Dolphin and Cupra Born.

The e-308 is available in Europe in both hatchback and wagon body styles, but Australia will only receive the hatch given the low take-up of wagons here.

Powering the e-308 is a 115kW/260Nm electric motor with a 54kWh high-voltage battery ensuring a WLTP driving range of approximately 413km.

While Peugeot Cars Australia has not confirmed pricing or specification for the e-308 or the e-Expert, that information will be revealed closer to launch.

As well as offering regenerative braking, the e-308 has an onboard three-phase 11kW charger allowing for a 20 to 80 per cent charge in less than 25 minutes using a 100kW public charging point.

The 308 hatch is available with a petrol or plug-in hybrid powertrain in Australia and the wagon is a petrol-only offering.

Peugeot already has two EVs on sale in Australia - the e-2008 small SUV and the e-Partner small commercial van. Following the e-308 and e-Expert will be the next-generation version of the 3008 SUV, dubbed - unsurprisingly - e-3008.

Tim Nicholson
Managing Editor
Calling out the make and model of every single car he saw as a toddler might have challenged his parents’ patience, but it was clearly a starting point for Tim Nicholson’s journey into automotive journalism. Tim launched the program, Fender Bender, on community radio station JOY 94.9 during completion of his Master of Arts (Media and Communications). This led to an entry role at industry publication GoAuto, before eventually taking the role of Managing Editor. A stint as RACV’s Motoring Editor – including being an Australia’s Best Cars judge – provided a different perspective to automotive media, before leading him to CarsGuide where he started as a Contributing Journalist in September 2021, and transitioned to Senior Editor in April 2022, before becoming Managing Editor in December 2022.
