Mission X possible! Porsche's Mission X hypercar has the Nurburgring in its sights, ready to make the 918 Spyder look outdated

The Mission X concept is about the same size as the Porsche Carrera GT and 918 Spyder.

Porsche has finally dropped a tangible link to its next hypercar, something it’s been teasing and discussing for years to follow up the lineage of the 959, Carrera GT and 918 Spyder.

This is the Porsche Mission X, and like the ‘Mission E’ before it, it could be a preview of a production model before it.

Designed by Porsche’s Head of Style, Michael Mauer, the Mission X has no confirmed specifications aside from the fact it’s entirely electric with a power-to-weight ratio claimed at about one metric horsepower for each kilogram.

Being relatively compact at 4.5 metres long and 2.0 metres wide, it’s possible the X has something in the range of 1000-1250kg to its name with 1000-1250PS converting to about 735-919kW.

“The Mission X is a clear commitment to the core of the brand,” Mauer said of the Mission X.

“The continuing, enhanced expression of our brand and product identity is an important compass for us to navigate the development of our series-production models. The concept study symbolises a symbiosis of unmistakable motorsport DNA with a luxurious overall impression.”

Previously, Porsche has used the ‘Mission’ name for a concept that led directly to the creation of the Porsche Taycan for production.

So far, the Mission X’s mission, is to “be the fastest road-legal vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife… should the Mission X go into series production”.

Stay tuned for more.
