Peugeot 3008 2021 review: GT Sport

This is a good looking car. It’s quite different to others on the market, with a long-ish shape but is much more sophisticated than other long mid-size SUVs like the Forester. You can opt for a two-tone finish, it has a spanky new grille that looks quite space-shippy, especially while driving, and the Peugeot lion badge is the cherry on top. 

The GT Sport's interior is also right up there. Being the top model in the range you’ll find Nappa leather seats with a luxe quilted pattern, and a small leather steering wheel which matches up to Audi's sporty designs. This could be even better.

This is a good looking car.

It’s hexagonal - small with a flat bottom and flat top so your hands fit neatly on the top corner angles, and it immediately shouts 'racing car' to me. It’s possibly the best thing about the car. 

Other interior highlights are the lime wood trim throughout, and the doors and dash are covered in soft, pebble-patterned premium fabric. 

The centre console is nicely designed with a one-sided metallic swish. You get a digital instrument display in front of the steering wheel, and it all gives off a well styled vibe.

The front seats are power adjustable and there’s also a massage function in the driver’s seat. The tailgate is power operated but sometimes I think that’s more trouble than it’s worth, being slow to go up and down. 

You’ll get two cupholders (which actually hold the cup properly instead of letting it float around in a larger space), there’s a spot for keys and a phone that also has a wireless charger, a decent centre console and bottle holders in each door so you’re covered storage-wise.

Rear passengers get two cupholders in the centre armrest and there is climate control in the back seat.

Being a mid-size SUV it’s a great size for my family of four and we all fit in this week with room to spare.

The rear has loads of room for my seven- and nine-year old, and I can fit in there at 161cm (5'3") with just enough space between my knees and a taller person’s driving position. It’s not huge in the back, but you will fit if you’re taller than me. It could have more leg space but it’s not a deal breaker. 

Boot space is huge for a mid-size SUV. At 591L it’s larger than most competitors apart from a few cars like the Volkswagen Tiguan. It’ll fit large suitcases or a double pram and will have no trouble with sporting equipment for weekend games.

Driving is fun in the Peugeot 3008! There’s a 1.6L, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine and it’s quick off the mark, so it’s not just the steering wheel that makes it feel like a racing car, it’s actually very speedy. 

It’s also agile and drives like a smaller car and even feels a bit more sedan-like to drive than most mid size SUVs, There’s no heaviness or clunkiness with the handling. Everything is smooth and works in unison.

The steering is easy to turn and you can get into parks easily. Unfortunately the reverse parking camera looks like it hasn’t been updated in years; it’s still quite fuzzy and low res, especially at night. That could have done with an update for this new model. 

The other thing Peugeot could offer is all-wheel drive because all 3008’s are 2WD and there is no AWD option. 

The Peugeot 3008 GT Sport costs $54,990, before on road costs. The official combined fuel consumption figure is 5.6L/100km and I averaged 7.7L/100km for the week. 

It's covered by a five year/unlimited km warranty and servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km. With the five year capped servicing plan, each service for the GT Sport works out at $527.80 (over the first five years).
